Coffee growers from Guatemala returning after the violence of the 1990’s, in 2003 resurrected an association of coffee growers called ASDECAFE, which had links to a previous association that had been founded by a priest in the 1967. Now today made-up multiple co-ops with over 1000 members help to provide support for the local regional co-op members.

This specific coffee is a single sourced blended shade grown, certified organic coffee, from the Huehuetenango of Guatemala, the seven co-ops in the region work together along with the aforementioned region co-ops to produce certified organic, fair trade, coffee beans. You can tell co-op members by their unique striped cloths that they wear for farming. The focus is on sustainability and environmental protections, along with equitable distribution of income. This is why we call it Guatemalan Gold.
